Class 04
- Go through 1.Nature and watch all the videos and examples
- Watch all the project presentation videos that you haven't seen and give feedback (MS Teams - Artwork Discussions Channel)
- Go through 2.Method: Recursion and recreate a simple recursive tree in processing
- Mother Nature Field Trip Assingment (also see MS Teams)
- when you are done, upload your presentation with the assignment and post it to the class04 channel
Mother Nature Field Trip: Class Exercise

- OBSERVE
- Go out into nature (park/forest/meadow,...)
- take pictures/videos of a natural phenomenon that sparks your interest
- static or dynamic, micro or macro, plant or animal, dead or alive - everything is possible (eg patterns, arrangements, behaviours, shapes, colors, textures...) with one exception:

- DECONSTRUCT
- take the phenomenon apart
- draw its individual parts/modules with detail but without need for realism (can be abstracted)
- WRITE THE RULES
- list all the rules that are needed to reconstruct it
- describe the systems that is responsible for its form
- this can be completely made up, no need for accuracy or completeness - an approximation of the part that interests you is sufficient
- RESEARCH The Internet
- Now it's time to find out everything about your specimen!
- Start with the basics eg. name, reproductive behaviour, growth,... and
- then go deeper and research possible algorithms, applications, existing tools or simulations, applications
- RECONSTRUCT MINDMACHINE
- put everything (your rules, algorithms and modules) together again and
- think about the individual parameters and their effect on the result,
- make a radical change and see what happens
- What if you would change your modules to something entirely different ? What if you'd alter the rules? etc
- Transform it into your own work and sketch at least one such System Fiction.
Pen and paper is sufficient, but you are free to use any medium
- PRESENT
- Create a presentation that covers all steps (PDF). If you have dynamic material (eg videos) upload them separately and refer to it in the presentation
Please dedicated up to 4h for this.
Note: If you have chosen Assignment B) Own Project you can stop here - Assignment A) Homework will continue to develop it further in code
