Assignment

Main Assignment

As these are special times you can choose between two ways to complete this class:

A) Homework
OR
B) Own Project

A) Homework

Complete every assignment that you will receive including the assignments tagged #Homework

B) Your own Project

Create your own generative/procedural Art/Design Project and
skip all the #Homework assignments (to work on your own project)

(almost) everything (great) is allowed that involves computational aesthetics.

  1. It involves a computational, algorithmic, realtime process

  2. It produces an aesthetic output (eg visual)

  3. It is based on a firm theoretical/critical foundation (concept).
(eg. “I want to play around with particles/kinect/coolstuff” might not be the strongest idea ever)
  • Be experimental (but avoid tech-demos)
  • Learn by doing, try out new things
  • Be critical (question everything, especially yourself)
  • Be open, share and discuss
  • Pay attention to details
  • Have fun!

Result:
The finaly result may be anything from a static image (eg. a poster) to a large-scale interactive installation. The main challenge is trying to create work that touches people at an emotional level, as opposed to them thinking about the technology or wondering how it was made.

Tools:
You are completely free to choose the frameworks/tools you want to use.

Making poems, not demos, is how we refer to it, i.e. making work that is like a poem, short yet dense, re-tellable, rhythmic, meaningful as opposed to a demo that just feels like technology for technology‘s sake.
